I wanted to talk about something very important...insurance. Yes, we all hate thinking about it, but it can really be vital depending on your situation! As a guitar maker and repair shop, I need comprehensive insurance both to protect my tools, supplies, stock of guitars, and personal and client liability. Most guitar owners never think of insurance, and many repair shops and luthiers do not have any at all.
Accidents happen, and that we all need to protect our guitars. If you only own a few guitars, and you have homeowner's insurance, you're instruments are most likely covered...but you better make sure! A Taylor, Martin, of Gibson could cost over $2,000 to replace, and custom guitars even more!
If you rent a home or apartment, you don't have homeowner's insurance, so a small premium of a couple hundred per year may totally protect your collection from theft, fire or flood...even the dog knocking it over!
I work with Ellis Hershman at Heritage Insurance. They have comprehensive coverage for all kinds of applications from stores, repair shops, collectors, builders, and players. I urge you to think about this issue, and feel free to contact Heritage at 1-800-289-8837 or their website at http://www.musicins.com/
