Hi again folks, today's article is about a very cool guitar repair helper I found...little plastic beads which melt in boiling water. When gluing bridges with curved, sloping, and complex rounded shapes, it is nearly impossible to get perfect and even gluing pressure with clamps alone. I use these hobby beads to make custom fit, perfect negative molds of unusual shaped parts for glue-ups!
Bridges like Tacoma's guitars and basses, and Taylor's AB series bass bridges are a perfect example. The photos are pretty clear: The beads melt, are shaped by pressing over the part, allowed to cool, and presto! When used on top of the bridge, the clamps push downward with perfect even pressure, ensuring a solid wood-to-wood joining. This not only makes for a better visual repair, but increases tone and sustain!
