I just returned this morning from a trip to The Taylor factory in El Cajon Ca.
It was a wonderful trip, and I got plenty of hands-on guitar work in.
The most exciting news for me and my Taylor customers is that I've purchased a UV-cure system for working with Taylor on cracks, dings, and finish touch-ups. The ultraviolet finish system used by Taylor is amazing. I've always been proud of my touch-up and crack repairs, but now I'll be able go even further with these repairs, and have the ultimate cosmetic results: when doing cracks, dents, and touch-ups the Taylor way with the UV finish, there is ZERO shrinkback and sinking in the repair areas....the finish will look factory new even on a tiny spray area...
One of the big problems in the field is touching up a satin finish. There is always a slight change in the patina of the repair area. This will no longer be case; I'll be able to fix a crack, and flash it with a thin satin topcoat, and the whole repair area will blend into the surrounding satin like it was never there. Light will reflect evenly across with no blend lines. This finish feathers in perfectly, and cures in minutes! No more waiting weeks for drops-fills to cure and shrink...no sink lines months later after the guitar has gone through seasonal changes. I'll be posting articles once the system is up an running.
